Current: Re-elected to the 10th National Parliament in the 2017 General Elections for the same seat as a Peoples National Congress Candidate. Leader of the People's National Congress Party, 4th term in this Parliament.

Past: First elected to the 7th National Parliament in the 2002 General Elections for the Ialibu-Pangia Open seat as a People's Solidarity Party Candidate. Elected Leader of People's National Congress party following the merger of the two parties after the 2002 general elections. Appointed Minister for Labour and Industrial Relations on the 13/8/2002 following the formation of the Somare/Marat government until the 2/8/2003 when appointed Minister for Public Service. Named Leader of Government Business on the 6/3/2003. Decommissioned as Minister for Public Service and Leader of Government Business on the 18/5/2004 following the departure of People's National Congress party from the Somare government. Elected Leader of Opposition on the 19/5/2004. Re-elected to the 8th National Parliament in the 2007 General Elections for the same seat as a People's National Congress candidate. Appointment as Minister responsible for Commerce and Industry and Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology in the caretaker cabinet on the 13/8/2007 then Minister for Public Service in the Somare-Temu cabinet on the 29/8/2007. Appointed Minister for Finance and Treasury from July 2010. Elected Prime Minister on the 2nd August 2011. Re-elected to the 9th National Parliament in the 2012 General Elections for the same seat as a People's National Congress candidate. Elected Prime Minister in August 2012. Elected as Prime Minister on the 02/08/2017. Added responsibility as the Minister for Bougainville Affairs on the 11/01/2016 till 8/4/2016, Minister for NEC and Sports, He then resigned as the Prime Minister on 29th, May 2019 following majority of the Members of Parliament refusing continuity of his leadership. He served as the Prime Minister for the Independent State of Papua New Guinea for 8 Years. He was the 7th Prime Minister.

Primary Education: Completed Primary Education from Pangia Primary School, Gr 1-6, 1972-1977, then Gr 7-8 from Ialibu High School
Secondary Education: Completed High School from Goroka Demonstration High School, Gr 9-10, 1978-1981
Tertiary Education: Completed Tertiary Education from University of Papua New Guinea, 1982-1987.

Achievements: Attended UPNG from 1982 to 1986 graduating with a Bachelor of Accountancy and Commerce Degree. Returned to UPNG in 1986 to complete Honours Degree in Accountancy in 1988 after a year practicing as an accountant. As a Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA), he was elected president of the PNG Institute of Certified Practicing Accountants (PNG CPA) in 1990. Served as company director for various companies and statutory institutions including Executive Chairman of the PNG Banking Corporation, Rural Development Bank, Motor Vehicle Insurance Trust and Pacific MMI Insurance prior to entering national politics in 2002.
