The Parliament Librarian is in-charge of the library.
The main objective of the Parliamentary Library Service is to collect, assemble and maintain a satisfactory collection of material relevant to the work of the Parliament.
Services offered by the Library Service include;
- Reading and Reference
- Book Lending (4 books per month)
- Inter-Library loans for material not available inhouse
- Distribution of Parliament Papers
- Maintenance of databases on Papua New Guinea Laws and profiles of Members of Parliament
The Parliamentary Librarian manages the Library and reports directly to the Deputy Clerk-Coporate & Support Services.
Functions
- Collect, assemble and maintain a satisfactory collection of material relevant to the work of Parliament;
- Maintain an efficient information storage and retrieval system as a documentation center for research and educational use by authorized users;
- Maintain links with libraries and other relevant bodies both nationally and abroad for the sharing of information;
- Assist users to locate required information with ease and convenience;
- Maintain a records management center to secure and safeguard all records and information databanks;
- Carry out research on behalf of Parliament on subject matters required by the Parliament and Members;
- Perform any other responsibilities consistent with the roles and functions of the Parliamentary Service pertaining to the collection and dissemination of information.
