Security Division

The Security Division is responsible for the security of the Parliament building and its assets and for the protection of the lives and property of the Members of Parliament, their staff and Parliamentary Service Staff.

The work of the Security Division is further enchanced with the following:

  • CCTV Cameras 
  • Walk-through metal detectors
  • Hand-held metal detectors
  • X-Ray Machines
  • Security Radios 
  • Security Lighting
  • Firearms 
  • Police Reservists on attachment

Trained security officers are available to assist and direct the movement of the general public within the Parliamentary precincts, providing a safe environment for Members of Parliament and their staff, Parliamentary Service Staff, diplomats, VIP's on official visit and other visitors to the Parliament House.

Functions

  • Protect the Parliament building from vandalism, fire and sabotage
  • Protect the lives and properties of Members of Parliament and their staff, Parliamentary Service Staff and other visitors
  • Assist dignitaries and other visitors in and around the Parliamentary building
  • Direct the movement of the general public within the Parliamentary precincts to ensure peace and order
  • Ensure visitors to the Parliament building meet the entry requirements and are issued appropriate visitor access passes 
  • Enforce all Directives, Rules, Regulations, Policies, By-Laws and Standing Orders of the National Parliament as directed by Speaker of Parliament, the Clerk or the Management of the Parliamentary Service
